Are you seeking your next adventure?

We are looking for a forward thinking Deputy Headteacher with a positive outlook and a ‘can-do’ attitude.  We are a two-form entry school situated in beautiful South East Cornwall: our location means that we have abundant opportunities to provide a rich curricular experience for our children by utilising the outdoors.  Integral to our school are our nursery, catering for 3+ year olds, and our Area Resource Base, a provision for 20 children with severe and complex needs.

Our new Deputy Headteacher will lead on curriculum development and assessment across the school, working alongside our senior leadership team, SEND team, teachers and support staff to ensure our children get the very best opportunities.  They will work closely with the Headteacher monitoring, evaluating, challenging and supporting the quality of teaching and learning across all departments of the school.  There will be a reduced teaching commitment as part of this role.

We are seeking a Deputy Headteacher who:

  •          Has a proven track record of successful school improvement at Senior Leadership level
  •          Is able to be strategic, implement actions and drive improvement as part of a highly skilled and passionate senior leadership team
  •          Can take responsibility for curriculum development, being creative, purposeful and able to pay attention to detail
  •          Is able to create action plans for improvement based on all aspects of school improvement measures, including data analysis
  •          Is an effective communicator, able to build and sustain relationships with all stakeholders
  •          Has an enduring and unrelenting belief in the ability of all pupils to achieve
  •          Has a well developed awareness of the importance of learning dispositions being deeply embedded in order to develop successful life-long learners
  •          Is passionate about ensuring best possible support and outcomes for pupils with SEND, and who has an understanding of supporting children with highly complex needs, or a willingness to learn

    We can offer:
  •          A highly skilled and experienced senior leadership team to work with, including effective and supportive governors
  •          A warm and welcoming team, with high morale and superb team spirit where everyone has a voice, calm and purposeful learning environments
  •          Wonderful children who are eager to learn and be the best they can be
  •          All the support, encouragement and opportunities to ensure our leaders go on to more senior roles and future headships
  •          A forward thinking and outward looking school, eager to be cutting edge in our practice
  •          An environment in which the positive mental health of our staff and children is of great importance
  •          A proactive and committed approach to managing the life - work balance of our entire team

About us:
We are a two form entry school on the Cornwall/Devon border.   We offer a warm welcome from a supportive, hard working and passionate team, bubbly children and many opportunities for further professional development for the right person.

As part of our rigorous and robust safeguarding procedures, we do point out that this school and the Local Authority are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  Part of our recruitment process will include an online search of freely available information of shortlisted candidates.  Please note that qualifications and the identify of shortlisted candidates will be thoroughly checked at interview and that for the appointed person, an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service certificate will be required prior to commencement of the post.  To this end, please bring two identification documents such as a passport, driving licence or birth certificate to the interview, as well as any relevant certification.

Visits to the school are encouraged; we are sure you will like what you see!

Please contact the school office on: 01752 843019 or email secretary@burraton.cornwall.sch.uk to arrange your visit.
