Session content for 15th November 2017
  • It’s Not a Year 6 test!! 2017 SATs analysis; a look at the content covered and key teaching points. Sharing outcomes and pupils’ responses with colleagues; what can we learn?
  • Updates: new materials from Mastery PD Project to support pedagogical subject knowledge
  • The Fair Education Alliance Report
  • Keeping the focus on Reasoning though the use of ‘Number Talks’

Please note you will be need to bring anonymized examples of 2017 KS1 & KS2 SATs Qs to share with colleagues and discuss pupils’ approaches for the first session. You will need several examples of the following:

KS1 Paper 1 Q21; Paper 2 Q14, 15, 18, 25 & 31

KS2 Paper 1 Q5 & Q29; Paper 2 Q9 & Q14

The three workshops provide subject leaders with an opportunity to be updated on the latest initiatives, research and thinking in teaching and learning mathematics. Guest speakers and subject leaders are invited to share what really works with their colleagues.

The main focus is the ongoing development of the mastery mathematics curriculum, considering challenges such as ‘keeping the class together’, teaching for mastery, improving reasoning and problem solving skills and using representations and manipulatives to develop deep understanding.

Materials and practical ideas support leaders to provide training for colleagues in their own schools and guide action planning for future development areas.

NOTE: Leaders will need to bring equipment/materials; details will be emailed to schools so please check.
