Energy freedom: The cheapest kWh is the one you don’t use

A recent webinar, ‘Energy freedom: The cheapest kWh is the one you don’t use’ took listeners on a 30-minute journey to a more sustainable future, with a reduced carbon footprint and, ultimately, lower energy bills.

For many School Business Professionals and Bursars, controlling costs is becoming an increasing challenge amid growing budgetary pressures. You know you need to power your school economically and sustainably, but growing use of ICT and dated systems and infrastructure may be draining your resources.

Replacing those old and inefficient systems and technology has become a reactive and phased activity among many schools, with replacements happening when they reach the end of their lives. However, replacing these power-hungry fixtures may be less costly than you think and will offer immediate cost savings in energy consumption. After all, the cheapest kWh is the one you don’t use!

For example, consider updating your fluorescent T8 or T12 lamps with LED lighting, along with auto-dimming and movement sensors, and not only will you benefit from lower energy costs, but you’ll also improve the appearance of your school and gain a better quality of light.

The way we heat our schools in the future will also need to change as we shift away from carbon-based fuels. For many, electric heat pumps represent the future of heating buildings. But, for now, for those on oil or LPG and for those simply seeking a greener alternative to mains gas, biomass can be worth the investment.

At the end of the webinar, attendee feedback demonstrates that many are feeling inspired to make simple changes around their school to support a greener future. What can you do? Download the poster for some energy saving quick wins here. Listen again to the recording here.
