Update 17th September, Cornwall Council Education Bulletin

Throughout the pandemic the Public Health team at Cornwall Council have supported schools with suspected cases of COVID-19 with health advice and communications and we will continue to do so.

Following an update to guidance from the Department for Education for reporting a confirmed case of COVID-19, I wanted to write to you to confirm the processes in Cornwall

The new guidance, which was issued last evening, now asks for schools and early years settings to notify the Department for Education, if they get ONE confirmed case of COVID-19.

Therefore, the process for reporting is now:

  • If you have a SUSPECTED case of COVID-19 – Notify Cornwall Council by emailing phnotifications@cornwall.gov.uk
  • If you have a CONFIRMED case notify Cornwall Council by emailing phnotifications@cornwall.gov.uk and call the DfE’s helpline on 0800 046 8687 and select the option for advice following confirmation of a positive case. The line will be open Monday to Friday from 8.00am to 6.00pm, and 10.00am to 4.00pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
  • If you have MORE THAN ONE CONFIRMED case notify Cornwall Council on phnotifications@cornwall.gov.uk and call the South West Public Health England team on 0300 303 8162. Line open 7 days a week, 24 hours.

Please see below for the documents sent to schools from Health Protection (sent via the Daily Education Bulletins) with guidance on how to manage suspected COVID-19 cases, including the PHE workflow and a summary page of what support is available from the LA.

Also below is a crib sheet detailing what to do in certain scenarios.
