Self-harm training for school staff

self-harm self harm

Information for schools October 2018

During the last twelve months, in conversations and feedback related to CAMHS and HeadStart, a number of secondary and primary heads plus school leaders have been requesting Self-Harm training for school staff. I am delighted that the LA and NHS commissioners have committed £20,000 to provide FREE twilight self-harm training for all secondary schools during the next eighteen month period. Nick Millward is coordinating this on behalf of the CAMHS i-Thrive Strategic Board through the LA Training website (Ian Bruce represents CAPH on this board, David Barton represents CASH); Nick has explained the details below.

There are two expectations of the secondary school hosting the training:

  • All primary school colleagues in their designated catchment area should be invited to attend
  • Invitations should also be made to key professionals and other agencies with whom they work  – eg school nurse, health, police. This is an excellent opportunity for multi-agency, inter professional training and development. Clearly, the invitees will be different for each school.

It is anticipated that each secondary school will host one twilight session; if a MAT with more than one secondary school wishes to bring schools together, then that is fine – please contact Nick Millward so he is aware and you can discuss the logistics of increased number of primary school invitations being made. There is no budget for an alternative ‘hotel venue’ – this would be at your own cost if you choose to pursue that option.

Nine dates have so far been made available from October half term coded SEMH01 to SEMH09. Please follow the link and book in where it best fits for you – you will appreciate that there is little flexibility due to the availability of the trainer. Similarly, we recognize that schools’ twilight sessions are already committed and that this will be an additional session to those calendared. https://www.cornwalllearningonline.co.uk/courses/bookings/default.asp#starthere

You will see a screen like the one below and can then enter your details. Once you have booked the session it will be locked. Any help required, changes to be made or other queries, please contact Ben Nash at the LA.
