The School Effectiveness Team Cornwall Council - Subject Cluster Co-ordinator

The School Effectiveness Team Cornwall Council - Subject Cluster Co-ordinator

Cornwall Local Authority’s Quality of Education team has established a successful network of Subject Clusters which are supporting Primary phase subject leaders in the development of their subject content knowledge, subject pedagogical knowledge, and the leadership expertise within their teams.

Building on the success of the last two years, we are looking to realise our ambition for the subject clusters to be jointly led by a primary and secondary specialist in order to further enrich the quality of the professional development for teachers and address the perennial educational challenge of transition. This is a unique professional development opportunity to lead a community of practice in key subject areas across the Duchy. We are looking to make a number of appointments for the new academic year 2024-2025. These include: -

  •          A secondary geography specialist.
  •          A primary art lead.
  •          A secondary history specialist.
  •          A languages primary lead and a secondary languages specialist.

How will this work? The ambition is to create a sustainable model of continuous improvement for both effective subject leadership and curriculum development through the establishment of a network of learning hubs where, through mutual support, the learning community is able to reflect on current practice and develop strategies for improvement.

How frequently will they meet? These are termly with on-going online, support further training opportunities and ad hoc meetings within each community as required.

What is involved in the role? This is a professional development opportunity and is not a paid role. The majority of the meetings are twilight. You will be expected to attend termly twilight planning meetings with all the subject cluster leads. You will then plan and deliver termly subject meetings two of which are twilight and online with a face-to-face spring term meeting. Each school will receive a bursary to support the cluster coordinator’s preparation time and follow up work; expenses and cover for the spring face to face meeting. Where the cluster is jointly led by a primary and a secondary specialist each school will receive £750 per academic year.

Application and interview. Applications are to be submitted to School Effectiveness Cornwall schooleffectiveness@cornwall.gov.uk  by 26th June 2024. Online interviews will be w/c 1st July 2024.
