Every child, and teacher, who visits The Writer’ Block discovers something new about writing. And more often than not, that discovery is how to access their imaginations to find their story and that they really enjoy writing!
Children then take this new found love of story and creative writing back to school where you as teachers can nurture it and help them achieve their potential.
‘Well I used to think writing was just using a pen but now I know how much fun it is.’
‘I feel confident to write whatever comes to my head.’
‘It has taught me very useful skills in a fun way’
‘I now know how to design a person in my head - THANK YOU!’
Schools come back to The Writers’ Block again and again because we instil confidence and self-esteem, and re-kindle the joy in writing. One primary school has booked in three groups this September!
‘Showed even those students who are 'weaker' writers that they could achieve and create strong pieces of work. Being treated as writers helped this.’
‘All the children have grown in confidence. They are all very keen to hear each other’s work. The boys are not as embarrassed to show their work.’
‘Content was great and skilfully delivered - children were captivated and keen to engage and impress.’
Options at The Writers’ Block
Our full 6 week programme includes one day teacher CPD plus 5 weekly 2 hour sessions for pupils. This programme has the most significant impact on pupil confidence and skills.
You can also book a one day workshop which is perfect to kick start a focus on creative writing at school, or perhaps to give your more able writers the skills to write at Greater Depth.
If your school or MAT would like to make more than one booking, we can offer significant discounts.
We can cater for many different needs – reluctant writers, motivating boys, able writers, pupil premium groups. Why not combine a school outing to Heartlands exploring Cornish heritage with a visit to WB? Just get in touch!
