CAPH Spring Conference - Collaborative Cornwall
Our spring conference this year will brought together a number of inter locking initiatives and strategy updates that are available for you to access and implement, at no cost to your budget.
Our theme—attendance, inclusion, and SEND—is not just a policy focus or a box-ticking exercise.Â
It goes to the very foundation of what we do. These are complex and interconnected challenges that demand strategic thinking, operational precision, and, most importantly, a school culture rooted in empathy, equity, and high expectations for all.
It is amazing what has been produced collaboratively in Cornwall, for Cornish schools, by committed teams that have worked together across the education sector.
Please find the introductory video from Eveleen Riordan and the presentations from our guest speakers below:

Parental engagement workshop:
“Parent carer engagement is now a thread that runs through all of our decision making when working at a strategic level. We continue to use our findings to help shape our provision and offer based on what we now know better about our families,” said L. Vallance, Deputy Head, St Day and Carharrack School.
Join Nicky Hepworth and Laura Vallance who will focus on a specific case study where St Day and Carharrack School will demonstrate how they used the Framework to support a planned approach to working in partnership with parent carers. Impact, key learning, and next steps will be shared. The workshop will also promote opportunities to ask questions and engage in discussion about parental engagement.

Drawing from their experiences at Penpol and Portreath schools, they will share what has worked well, the challenges faced, and the key lessons learned. This session will highlight quick wins that schools can adopt immediately, as well as longer-term strategies to sustain and improve attendance. Come ready to discuss, ask questions, and explore practical approaches that can make a real impact in your setting.

Supporting Mental Wellbeing:
As educators we play a crucial role in shaping the environment in which children learn and grow.
As more research becomes available, so too does our knowledge and understanding of the importance of creating spaces where children feel psychologically, emotionally and physically safe.
Health promoting and health protecting education settings is fundamental to good educational attendance, attainment and most importantly to support children’s social, emotional mental health & wellbeing.
Join Ness Little (Headstart Digitial Resilliance, Parent, Carer and Family Lead) and Shelly Jameson (Healthy Schools) to explore practical strategies and resources (available from Headstart Kernow and Cornwall Healthy Schools) that can be implemented in your school to help grow a nurturing environment. One which fosters a sense of belonging and connection for children to their peers, family, school and wider community. A particularly powerful antidote for those children that have experience the impact and effects of adversity and trauma.
